Sumner Band Parent Association
Who Are the SBPA? YOU ARE!
The Sumner Band Parents Association is a non-profit organization formed in 1982 for the purpose of funding transportation, equipment, and other e
xpenses pertaining to the Sumner High School Band program, that the school and school district do not otherwise fund in their budgets. It is administered by an annually-elected Executive Board, and general membership meetings are held monthly.
Who are those members? YOU ARE!
As a part of the Spartan Band Family, you are
automatically part of the SBPA.
All we ask of our membership is to become involved in the program, participate in and assist with our fundraising efforts, and donate time to help with our events. If we have not yet reached out to you, please give us a call.
Our Meetings...
Sumner Band Parents Association meetings are open to all band parents, students, and people interested in Sumner High’s Band Program See the Band program from the “inside”, and meet a great group of students (and parents!)
We meet monthly, at 7:00 pm in the Band Room, watch your Band calendar for dates.
Our Parent Volunteers Make the Program GO!
Without our Band Parents, there is no funding for trips or equipment, nobody to assist in fitting uniforms, towing our Band trailer, rewarding the kids with snacks an
d water after a performance - you get the idea!
There are plenty of opportunities to help out. Sign up to bring snacks for football halftime. Be a part of the Pit Crew at field show competitions (getting pit instruments on & off the field quickly). Chaperone a Band trip (It’s fun! Really!). Help with the Big Band Dance & Auction. There are many ways to help, with only a small commitment of your time, and you get to meet a LOT of nice people - of all ages.
Message from the President
Is anyone feeling a bit frazzled yet?! The start of the band year is always busy, hectic and kind of crazy. We’re off to a great start, though, with the Midnight Madness all-night rehearsal, uniform fittings, our first parade and first home football game (and what a game it was!). All within the first 2 weeks of school. To all the freshmen, new students and their parents: welcome! You may be feeling a tad overwhelmed right now – it’s totally understandable and we can sympathize because we’ve all been there before. Here are a few tips to help you stay sane:
#1 Stay positive – it really does get easier and better!
#2 Find a carpool buddy – it will save driving time back and
forth to the band room.
#3 Get involved – we are called Sumner Band Parents Assoc. for a reason – it takes a ton of work to help Mr. Carl run the kind of award-winning program that he does. We couldn’t do it without parent volunteers - even the smallest amount helps. Plan to attend an SBPA meeting one of these days – they’re held monthly in the band room. See the calendar for dates and times.
#4 Stay connected – communication is what it’s all about. Please send a quick note to sumnerhsband@gmail.com and we will add you to our email list. Also, check out our website www.sumnerband.org – we will do our best to keep the information up-to-date.
#5 Enjoy this time – all too soon, your son or daughter will be graduating and moving away. Hanging out with us band parents gives you the opportunity to stay involved with your kids and their friends.
