2025 Sumner Summer Marching Band & Color Guard
(Updated 9/1/2025)
I hope all of you are having a great Labor Day long weekend and I hope that you don’t mind that I sent out this BLAST on Monday - it seems more correct to send it out as we start September, certainly one of the busiest months of our ‘25-26 year coming-up. Before we move on, I’d like to thank everyone who attended the excellent Convocation Performance last Monday morning at Sunset Stadium - you did a great job in your first performance and just about everything went well (I’m not officially counting the shaky rendition of Crazy Train, which was indeed crazy . . .). Thanks for 2 very productive rehearsals both inside and outside on Wednesday and Thursday nights as we worked hard on our parade marching and our pregame performance for Friday’s Scrimmage, which also looked and sounded excellent. Hopefully you can now see why we need to get started early so we’ll be ready for things as we get going for real this week - thanks again for all that you did to make things go so well.
Now we start the year - FOR REAL - with school classes and a VERY IMPORTANT MB-CG rehearsal on Wednesday night from 6:00-9:00PM. On Friday, you will be missing ALL DAY of classes as we perform at the Washington State Fair Rodeo Parade (see the attached time-line and information form in addition to 2 permission forms: one being the “regular” form we have for all of our trips and the other to get your teacher’s initials and OK for Friday’s event). It’s an early start to our parade performing but a great chance to work on things and to look great in our uniforms. Read the attached information carefully and let me know if you have any questions. As I mentioned last week, we won’t be attending the away FB Game at Lake Stevens HS on Friday (their AD told us that their grandstands were too small to accommodate us . . .) but on a positive note, when you enter the Fairgrounds on Friday for lunch, get a hand-stamp and you can return after school for FREE!). To finish off the week, our Color Guard will once again be attending the University of Washington Husky Band Day in Seattle to be the teaching-group for the other Color Guards from the various other schools that will be there (by the way, we attend Husky Band Day as an entire group once every 4 years, and next year is our year to take everyone (MB-CG-CH-DT). That's our first-week schedule that has us seen and heard by thousands and thousands of people, but that’s kind-of a normal week for us. On these school-year BLASTS I’ll always give you 2 weeks of information so you know what’s coming - the next week’s schedule has a Wednesday night full-group 6:00-9:00PM MB-CG rehearsal and a Home FB Game performance in what will likely be the biggest HS Football Game in the State when we host Kennedy Catholic HS at Sunset Stadium (we saw their Band at the Pre-Torchlight Band Jam and I invited them to come to the game and perform but I haven’t heard back from them yet . . .). Also, we’ll be going to South Sound Speedway in Rochester on Saturday September 13th to support our favorite driver (Bob Fulmer). So, here we go:

We’ve got fantastic things planned for this year - ALL YEAR LONG - so make sure you are planning, organizing, and staying on top of your schedule. Remember - we are counting on ALL OF YOU and so is everyone else! We’re going to have a lot of fun this year and you’ll see many different places and do your best in all that we do - that is our standard of excellence. Let’s have a great start to a fantastic year - see you Tuesday!
