2023-24 Sumner HS Marching Band & Color Guard

(Updated 4/21/2024)

....................................................................................

Sumner HS Band Program Students, Parents and Families:

It was great to come back and jump back into things last week after our much-deserved Spring Break. We’ve got lots of things coming-up over the next few weeks, including:

  • Our monthly SBPA Parents Meeting THIS MONDAY April 22nd at 7:00PM
  • Our next Restaurant Night - this one is at The Windmill Bistro THIS TUESDAY April 23rd from 5:00-8:30PM and is a great way to have an excellent Dinner, support a local business, and help raise money for our Band Program. Make sure to make reservations in advance
  • After taking last week off, the Sumner HS MB & CG will get back to work THIS WEDNESDAY April 24th from 4:00-7:00PM as we start to prepare for our final 2 parades of the Spring on Saturday May 18 at the Bremerton Armed Forces Day Parade (in the morning) and the Poulsbo Viking Fest Parade (in the afternoon) doing different music pieces and routines for each parade
  • Both Jazz Ensembles will be performing at the Stafford Suites Senior Prom THIS FRIDAY April 26th from 6:00-8:00PM - this should be really fun
  • THIS SATURDAY April 27th at 8:00AM our outstanding Tenor Sax player Aiden Hatcher will be representing our Band Program at the WIAA State Solo Contest at Central Washington University. He will do a great job!
  • THIS SUNDAY April 28th we’ll be having a Car Wash at the Les Schwab in Bonney Lake (off 214th across the street from the Safeway) starting at 10:00AM
  • This week we’ll start to work on our new combined 9/10/11/12 SB piece for our Spring Collage Concert Wednesday June 5th - “Fortress”, with LMS Band Director Mr. Osborn conducting the group - it’ll be an honor to have him lead our group and a lot of fun, especially for our LMS graduates
  • Both Jazz Ensembles will be traveling to compete at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival in Portland NEXT Saturday May 3rd-4th with different groups and different adjudicators. We learned a lot about at our performances at last month’s Newport HS competition in, so we’ll see how we’ve improved
  • The initial 2024-25 Sumner HS Band Program Student and Parent Information Meeting will be coming-up on Tuesday May 7th, where we’ll be talking about lots of important things:
    • the latest update on the December 2024 San Diego Holiday Bowl Trip
    • the 2024-25 Sumner HS Jazz Ensemble Tryouts
    • the 2024-25 Sumner HS Drumline Tryouts
    • the 2024-25 Sumner HS Drum Major Tryouts
    • the 2024 Summer Marching Band
  • We’ve already got our 2024 Fall Field Show music available to download and even practice from our BandApp site - while we haven’t yet assigned parts it’s still OK to look and work on things
  • Don’t forget about the Butter-Braids Fund-Raiser going until Friday May 3rd. Remember the sale is all online. Help us to raise money for many things we need to keep going at a high level (especially travel expenses). The goal is to raise $5000 and for each Band Program student to sell 10 Butter-Braids

So as you can see, we’ve got a lot going on and a lot of challenges but we’re ready for it and it’ll be fun each day with something new. Here’s our updated 2-week Sumner HS Band Program schedule, day-by-day:

We’ve handled ourselves so well during this year, so let’s work our hardest and give our best every day as well as helping and encouraging each other. We are a great family of students, parents, and staff who are all working in the same direction - to make you successful musicians but also successful people. Thank you for your efforts, just don’t give-up now as the finish line is coming into sight. Keep up the great work!
