2017-18 Sumner HS Spartan Band & Color Guard

5/14 thru 5/30 (Updated 5/13/18)

....................................................................................

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful Mother's Day Weekend we're having - PLEASE thank your mom for all she's done for you!  First, I want to thank the students and parents who attended yesterday's Saturday morning MB-CG rehearsal - it was a "make-up" rehearsal for the 3 weeks of Wednesday rehearsals we missed back in April when the Musical was going on.  Not only was it a good chance to march in some beautiful weather (and at the exact time-frame of next Monday's Victoria Parade), we did more than that when we got the chance to "bring a parade" to the residents of Stafford Suites, many of whom do not get the chance to get out for parades and other events.  This was not only special for them, but I hope it gave you a moment to reflect and realize how very fortunate we are to have the chance to do what we do and to bring happiness to so many people.  I know it may be a long time away, but we will hopefully all reach their age someday, and realize what it treat it was for them to have the Sumner HS Band members give their time and perform for them.  I'm glad we have the opportunity to reach out to them and remind them that they are one of us, and we are one of them.  I think it was a cool moment and a cool thing to do, and I hope you felt the same way.  Well, here we go on what has to be the most fun 8 days of the year - our first time in 6 years we've been to Victoria to see the beautiful city, perform in such a nice place, and march in such a BIG parade (they say there will be over 100,000 spectators there for the events this weekend).  Having been there for this event several times before, I know you will REALLY enjoy this trip - the boat rides, the performances on Sunday and Monday, the chance to look around and enjoy a historic city, the GREAT hotel we are staying at (thanks again Cathy Freeman for making it happen), and so much more.  Take it all in, enjoy yourselves, and PLEASE remember that we are honored guests and should act that way 24/7.  I've attached the information we received and talked about at yesterday's rehearsal, so make sure you look and study it over, get your permission forms (BOTH of them) in on-time (BY WEDNESDAY), get your ID, instruments and equipment, uniform(s), and everything else you will need ready for an outstanding adventure.  As I've said several times already, this is going to be a terrific week - let's start it off right on Monday and keep it going through next Monday night.  Here's our EXTENDED schedule for the next couple of weeks and then some:

I know we have a lot of peak-moments during the year (the Auburn Parade & Field Show Competition, the Valley Region Band Contest, the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival-Competition and others), but this event is happening as we start to close-out the year and we should definitely be at the top of our game - the very best we are going to be at this year.  Let's have a really great week together and keep that in-mind: how far we've come over the many months (and years) we've been together and how fortunate we are to be here together at this time.  Let's make it a truly great week!  Thanks very much
