2025-26 Sumner Summer Marching Band & Color Guard
(Updated 10/5/2025)
We had a fun and challenging week and I appreciate the work that all of you did:
- We had 2 good MB-CG evening field show rehearsals and we are almost done with the initial work on parts 1 and 2. We’ll continue to clean things up this week both musically/routine and drill movements (even though we won’t get on the field until Thursday and Friday) and get ready for our SFOB performances on Saturday
- Both Jazz Ensembles have been working hard on their initial charts and will perform them on Thursday evening at the Daffodil Princess Selection program (and then they’ll come out to the stadium and work on field show work)
- It was a fun night Friday as we watched the Wicked video and got a better feeling of the context of the music that we’re performing on our field show.
- And on Saturday we performed at the Come Walk With Me Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and led thousands of walkers in what is an outstanding event that means so much to our community and the many supporters who joined us.
All in all, a good start to an important month for our Sumner HS Band Program - it gets more exciting each week for the rest of the month as we’ve got performances every week. We are now in the heart of our fall season with field show competitions, a BIG SHS Homecoming Parade and Home FB Game, and a possible FB Playoff game at the end of the month:
- THIS SATURDAY - October 11th - we participate and host the SUNSET FESTIVAL OF BANDS, our own Field Show Competition and Fund-Raiser that will give you an early idea of how well we are doing on our Wicked Field Show (we will be judged by multiple judges in several different music and marching categories) and we’ll get to see several other excellent HS Marching Bands from around the State and see how we compare (I’ve attached a copy of our schedules for the day - it’s going to be GREAT!)
- HOMECOMING - Friday October 17th - we have the annual SHS HOMECOMING PARADE in the afternoon and maybe the final segment of our full Field Show at halftime of the HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME
- AND THE PUGET SOUND FESTIVAL OF BANDS - Saturday October 25th at Everett Stadium, where we get to continue to learn how we’re doing on our Field Show with another set of judges to evaluate us and 17 other very good Bands performing their field shows. Will our scores improve from the SFOB a couple of weeks earlier? We’ll see . . .

We’ll learn a lot about ourselves this week as we are evaluated by several judges at the SFOB. Listen carefully to what they tell you and try to improve both musically and visually - remember EDB! In 2 weeks we will try to use that information at the big PSFOB competition in Everett and then in 4 weeks we finish our competitive season with the SUPER BIG Auburn Veterans Day Parade and Field Show Combined Competition (both the Parade and the Field Show are judged and the combined scores decide the Sweepstakes Award Winner). We’re looking forward to seeing how things go this week - do your best but learn from what you see and listen. Thanks for both what you’ve done so far this year and in advance for what you’ll do this week and beyond.
Parents - don’t forget about the SBPA Meeting this Tuesday October 7 at 7:00PM in the Sumner HS Band Room - lots to talk about and plan for!
