2019 Sumner HS Summer Band

7/15 thru 7/28 (Updated 7/14/19)

....................................................................................

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!  Well, we made it through our non-performance week of the Summer Marching Band and now we're moving on to a really exciting 3 weeks of rehearsals and performances.  We've got our 3 parade pieces that are getting better every rehearsal, we're going to get all of the Color Guard routines learned this week, and we'll hopefully have some great weather to get us motivated to go outside and have fun.  Unfortunately, we've had some trouble finding a workable date (so far) for the Bowl-a-Thon we normally have, so it won't be happening this Wednesday July 17th, but we're not giving up on it yet.  I hope to have more information on other possible dates this week, so hang in there and we'll see what we can do.  There are several things to get ready for this week as we travel to our first 2 "big" parades of the summer:
  • make sure you have the music and routines memorized completely
  • make sure you're all set on your marching and lining-up
  • make sure you've got all of you uniform-parts together
  • make sure your instrument and equipment is working at its best-possible condition
  • make sure you get and read the Time-Line and Information Form (below) and get the Permission Form signed (which we will distribute at rehearsal on Tuesday)
  • make sure you sign-up for seats on one of the 3 School Buses we'll be taking for this trip (sign-up forms will also be at Tuesday's rehearsal)
  • make sure that you bring a small amount of money for lunch (after we march the West Seattle Parade in West Seattle) and dinner (after the Capital Lakefair Parade in Olympia) and bring a drink or 2 (preferably something clear so it won't get spilled on you) for between those times so you can stay hydrated
We're going to have a great time but it is going to be a long day, so make sure you're rested-up for Saturday.  Any parents going on the buses need to be OK'd by the District (forms need to be filled-out and starting with these trips we'll have a sign-up form at rehearsals) and parents need to fill out the special Chaperone Permission Form that we'll have at rehearsals this week (remember, we have 2 types of Chaperones - the in-uniform "walk-alongs" who are a part of our group as we march down the streets, and the "wavers and supporters" who ride with the buses to the end of the Parade-route and cheer us on as we march by).  We'll be seeing other groups at both parades, including some other Bands like the great Seattle All-City Band, and we'll be judged by Marching Band Judges in our playing, our performing, our marching, and our general effect in both parades, so we'll see if we win any awards - it's very possible if we do a GREAT job!  So here's our upcoming 2-weeks of schedules as we get ready to perform 5 times! (I've also attached our tentative Time-Line and Information for the BIG Seattle Seafair Torchlight Parade-Week next week):
